Technicraft

Every Wednesday a class of room eight students travelled on a bus  to Edgewater technology course.
As we entered the class college, for sewing as part of our  Mrs scott asked us to go and greet our sewing machine.(Bernina) Bernina is a sewing machine coloured white with so many buttons which you would wish to push.
Secondly Mrs Scott then gave out a paper which had ruled and curved lines. Room eight all had to practice without a thread by sewing the ruled lines on the paper.A while later Mrs scott introduces us to another teacher. (Mrs Barrot)Mrs Barrot was one of the best teachers that I have ever meet during my sewing lessons.
Mrs Scott said to everybody that we should do our best if we want to earn our licens. To earn our licens we all had to sew our paper into the sewing  machines as gentaly as we could. While we were doing the task room eight had to leave the room and go to the cooking room because our time was up.

We all had a great time doing sewing and it was a lot of fun because not many machines broke down at all.At the end of the day  room eight have at least completed  a task that was given to us at the start of the day. We all had a great time with Mrs Scott and Mrs Barrot.

Stars

You may think the stars are gone in the day but they aren't because the stars still remain in the same position. The reason why we can’t see the stars in the day sky is because the reflection of the sun is so bright that it blocks the light from the stars - making them visible only in the night time.

New Zealand Flag

Learning Intention:
We are learning how to identify and discuss the features of the New Zealand Flag and  Identify how we are all United under one Hemisphere.

The four red stars on the right hand side of the New Zealand flag  represent the four bright  stars in the Southern Cross (Crux).  This constellation is seen in the Southern Hemisphere in  New Zealand all year round.  In the top left hand corner of the flag  is the also Union Jack showing our connection as a member of the commonwealth with on Great Britain. I think the blue background represents the oceans that surround New Zealand.
I interpret the idea that we are united under Southern Skies as meaning that in Aotearoa there are many cultures that come from many places and that together we are united under the Southern Cross in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Olympic Rings

Learning Intentions:
We are learning to find and connect information in respond to key question.

The Olympic Flag is recognised across the world. The background is white on this there are the five interlocking rings. The five rings represent the coming together of countries across the five continents.  Each continent is represented by a different coloured ring. At least one of each of the colours of the rings ( blue, black, red, yellow and green) is on each country's flag that participates in the Olympic Games.

The worst day of my life

The clock struck  ten in the morning  and we had not yet left the house!

“Hurry up!” I shouted furiously, as I walked  over to see what was taking my mum and sister so long  to get ready. As I gasped another time, a step of thunder walked down the stairs of my house and said “ boo!”
‘Aahh’! I shouted,  as I turned around to see who had frightened me. There she was my little sister wandering over to scare me by saying “Hurry up let's go.”

Finally we were on our way to Otahuhu with such great excitement. “Yeah we're here” Soana shouted, as I started to make my way towards the shopping centre. I felt a bit strange all of a sudden because my mum and sister weren't  behind me.  I looked around and spied them across the road buying themselves something to eat.

Feeling left out and on my own just made me want to go home.   All of a sudden I heard my mum's voice saying “Come on let’s go home, it’s getting too dark”.  Off we went down the road and into the valley, on the bus and off we went walking home.

Home at last I just felt lazy, nothing to do but sit on the couch and listen to music.

Swimming

  • We are learning to use the features of explanation writing to inform and persuade our audience.
                 Swimming
Why is swimming so important to us people?
Swimming is so important.  There are many people who do not  know how to swim and because of this they are at risk of  drowning . Both children and adults need to learn how to swim before they get into deep water. If you are not a confident swimmer, you should not  swim in the deep sea because you are only putting your life at risk.

Swimming  helps us to develop  skills in the water that can save our lives.Learning to swim is not only for people who know the way of swimming, but it is for everyone old and young, and includes not only swimmers but also people on boats. People on boats need to learn how to swim in case of danger like, falling off their boats.  If this happens they need to know how to swim to survive.

Parents should make sure that their children learn to swim and adults need to learn as well so that if they need to they will be able to save their own lives and perhaps the life of another.
